My husband Shaun and I were asked to be godparents to our little nephew Oscar a few months ago.. Both of us felt so honoured and privileged to become godparents to this special little boy and be a part of the Christening day.
I knew I had to make something extra special for Oscar and started thinking about what I could make as soon we put the phone down after receiving the news..
I was searching the internet for some ideas and could not find anything I liked.. I then stumbled upon a photo on Pinterest with a quote from the Bible and instantly fell in love with it. I thought it was perfect for the occasion and thought I could make my own version of a lovely sign and add some photo frames to it.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
I started by typing the quote and printing it out on A3 paper in the font I liked.
I then got mdf board and cut out 2 shapes. I used two different types for this project. I wanted the quote to ‘pop’ so I decided to use a thicker mdf for the base and a thinner one for the quote.
I measured and cut out the boards carefully using a jigsaw. To ensure the edges are nice and neat, sand slightly over.
I also thought it would be nice to use two different colours to make the text pop even more.
As I didn’t have a baby blue colour at home, I decided to experiment and mixed some blue acrylic paint with white Annie Sloan chalk paint. It worked!!!
I mixed a nice shade of baby blue and painted the plaque and let it dry.
I painted the other plaque in Annie Sloan old white and let it dry.
As I mixed my own shade of blue, I got some matching photo frames and painted them to match.
I painted some pine door knobs in white to have a nice contrast.
I marked drilled the holes in the top corners where I wanted to put the ribbon.
It was then time to put the text on.
I traced over the text and painted over using a very fine paint brush and black acrylic paint.
I let the first coat dry and then went over second time just to make the text even more vibrant.
Then it was time to wax over the painted items and put them together.
I wanted to make sure the door knobs won’t fall off so I drilled holes and screwed them on the plaque.
I made a BIG MISTAKE – I measured an equal distance on the plaque but didn’t measure how far the frames are from each other!!! So of course, the frames were ay too close to each other and it looked rubbish… SOB! So I had to fill the holes , sand, paint, wax and drill new holes!
After some cursing and a cup of tea, I had calmed down and went back to finish it off.. This will teach me NOT to be too eager!!!
I drilled the new holes after I measured the photo frames and was 100% sure it would look the way I had intended!
And added the door knobs.
I put baby blue ribbon and tied knots so they would not move.
It was then time to add the ribbon on the photo frames. I used my staple gun to secure them in place.
I put the frames in place just to make sure they all fit!
The last step was to add the photographs. I also made a little card with the christening details and put it in the frame.
The frame for Oscar was ready!! It turned out even better than I thought…. Special sign for a very special boy!

Hi Evija! I love this!! I wish I had a talented bone in my body!!! Would you consider making one for me? If so, let me know how much!!!
Thanks!!
Awesome gift! How did you trace the quote?
Thank you Joanna. I printed the text to the size and font I wanted, then placed carbon paper on top of the plaque, the put the printed quote on top and using a pen traced over the letters. It gave me an outline, which I then hand painted. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much that helps a lot! I’m going to try to make one for my friend’s daughter. My husband and I are going to be her Godparents.
