You may recall my first blogger collaboration with Zen from Happiness Wherever in August when we both came up with a marble project. You can see my DIY marble effect glass project here and Zen’s marble project here.. This month we decided to do our second collaboration and our theme this month was – “Upcycle”.
You can check out Zen’s project here. This is what I came up with…
I have kept a few empty bean cans (surprise surprise) as you never know when they may come in handy!
I saw this gold desk organiser on Pinterest a while ago (via Anthropologie which cost over £40!) and thought I could make one at a fraction of cost for my craft room.
And let’s face it – everything looks better in gold!
This was such an easy project to do. Unless, you start spray painting on a windy day (I don’t know why I am complaining really as it is always windy in the Isle of Man!). All you need is a little piece of wood, some tins or glass containers and glue.
I didn’t want a huge desk organiser as I was planning to use it in my craft room/office space once it is ready, so I opted for 3 containers instead of 5. I used an old empty tin of beans, small glass plate and old kilner jar I had in my cupboard left over from when I made some jam.
I spray painted the items gold and let them dry. Once dry, I added some glitter tape around the tins.. well why not?
In the meantime, I prepared the wood for the base. I decided to stain it rather than spray paint it gold as I loved the contrasting colours. When everything was dry I glued the glass containers and screwed the tin on to the base and voila!
I then decided that I wanted to try out my Frensheen. I mixed it with some finishing coat and dabbed a little bit of gold over the stained wood. It looked so lovely I ended up covering the base in a bit of gold afterall!
I ened up adding some gold glitter tape around the containers because.. well why not!? DIY gold desk organiser was done and it cost me £0 (all items I used on this project, I already had at home).
