Hi everyone.. I finally I have a furniture makeover I can share with you! After so many months of painting walls and fixing up our house, I actually got to paint a piece of furniture and it is turquoise!!!! YAY!! I have accumulated so many pieces of furniture through the years, but this cabinet was actually the first thing I ever bought for our first apartment over 10 years ago! We had it for a few years before I caught the bug of painting and started to experiment. I don’t have the before picture but imagine light beech effect laminate!
I think this was also one of the first pieces I ever upcycled!
Well enough about the history of it, since we moved in our new house we got some new sideboards that I still need to paint, so this piece was really just gathering dust in the garage. As it has lots of drawers and great storage I decided I would re-paint and use it for my craft room. As you know my craft room is going to be done on a very tiny budget, so the less money I spend the better!
Removing the old paint was so easy! I used my heat gun and the old paint quickly was gone!! After quick sand and clean, it was ready to be painted again!
I am not normally someone who loves bright colours, but I thought I should really challenge myself a little. I won this gorgeous Everlong paint and when I looked through the colour palette I really fell in love with the Kingfisher shade. A little brighter than my usual pastel tones, but I thought I should give it a go!
The paint arrived and oh my, what a gorgeous colour it is! At first I planned to paint the top and the sides turquoise and the rest in nice cream colour. Well I am so glad I changed my mind and painted the whole cabinet instead! I thought it may be a little plain so I added a little beading to create a small elegant frame on the doors!
I added some gorgeous glass knobs from D. Lawless Hardware. I am so in love with it I can’t tell you!! This cabinet adds a little splash of colour in my gorgeous craft room, which is almost finished!!!
I can’t wait to share the craft room makeover with you very soon! For now, here is my Turquoise beauty!!

Oh my gosh! This is sooo gorgeous! Teal is my absolute favorite color and I’m totally loving on this. You did amazing!
Just wondering what your process was after you removed the original paint? I have a piece that I’d like to paint and need advice. I have painted an Ikea bookcase before, sanded, primed and painted and it still scratched off in places.
Thank you Bonnie. Once the paint was removed, I simply cleaned it and slightly sanded. I was using chalk paint for this, so it did not require any priming. I then sealed it with varnish as I wanted it to be hard wearing. What kind of paint did you use? If you sanded & primed it should have been a good base for the paint.
