I always try to come up with projects that are easy to make. Sometimes I simply buy something and hope the inspiration will come to me.. As I was shopping in our DIY store and getting some things for our living room decoration, I saw this gorgeous spray paint in bright copper! I just thought I had to create something using this paint..
The bright copper paint reminded me of autumn straight away, so I wanted to come up with a quick and easy project for the autumn. I am originally from Latvia and the autumn in Latvia is beautiful as you can actually see the seasons changing. The leaves are so colourful and beautiful it’s like magic! I knew straight away I would somehow incorporate leaf design in my project..
I am a jar ‘hoarder‘ so I have a load of old pickle, candle and desert jars in my cupboards..You never know when a project comes along and re-using old jars is a great and cheap way to update the decor in your home if you don’t want to spend a fortune!!
I started by cleaning the jars ( I used a larger pickle jar and a little desert jar). My initial idea was to use a vinyl cut out and spray paint the jar, then remove the vinyl and have a nice crisp leaf on the jar….
Well, it didn’t work!!! I think I used too much spray paint, so the paint was a little tacky and left me with a not so crisp leaf design… ARGH!!!! PLAN B it is… I cut out a piece of linen fabric which I was going to wrap around the jar so I could hide the ‘botched‘ leaf..
I then made my own leaf ‘stencil’. I simply used the printed maple leaf and traced it on a plastic wallet, then cut it out using a scalpel. You can download your maple-leaf-design-download I then used spray paint (I sprayed it on a plastic tub and used a little brush) to create the little leaf on the fabric. YES, it worked!
Once the jar was dry I loosened the threads of my fabric a little and glued it on the jar using mod podge.
I think it turned out quite nice, what do you think?
