Today I am sharing how we chose the flooring for our home. Everything in life is about compromise and flooring isn’t an exception! I absolutely love wooden floors, where Shaun prefers carpets. Decisions decisions..
If it was purely my decision I would put wooden floors throughout the house! Unfortunately, it was not, so we had to come to some sort of compromise. As the living room and the dining room was carpeted not so long ago by the old owners, we decided to leave the two rooms alone.
Especially, as we are planning to do a kitchen remodel in a few years, we don’t want to change floors unnecessarily twice! That left us with the three bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a hallway and staircase.
We had to consider various factors – style, durability, comfort and Coco! As we have a little fur baby Coco who gets very excited, we have to think about flooring that would be suitable & safe for her.
To keep both three of us happy – I suggested we do the downstairs bedroom (my office/craft room), the hallway and the downstairs toilet using wooden floors or laminate and keep the carpets for upstairs bedrooms and the stairs. I did prefer a runner on the stairs but hubby convinced me that the carpet would be easier to clean and also it later on worked out it was a cheaper option !
We checked several options – hardwood, engineered wood and laminate. I read mixed reviews and ordered so many samples to check the finish! After checking samples and surfaces, we decided to get this beautiful Milano Oak Laminate flooring. It was not only reasonably priced, but it also had the toughest surface and as it was embossed it had a light grip so Coco would be safe on it and would not slip.
Choosing carpets turned out to be super easy – we both agreed on the same carpet and shade straight away! I don’t think Coco was that bothered though!
Choosing the right flooring for your home is very important. Style and visual is one thing, but always bear in mind – is this floor suitable for the purpose? How long will it last and whether it will be suitable for the intended space?
We chose our floors and couldn’t be happier. Stay tuned for the next post!
Purpose is so important – my boyfriends parents ended up having to purchase a bunch of rugs after they switched to hardwood because their lab’s joints couldn’t take it day-to-day 🙁

That’s extremely important! We used to live in a house that had tiled floors, one time they were wet and Coco slipped and hurt herself, we got rugs afterwards! Now we have our own house we need to look at all aspects and Coco’s safety is at the top of the list!
