I found a cute vintage style sewing box/seat in the local amenity site as I really thought I could make it lovely again. I had it in my shed for a while now and I wasn’t sure what kind of fabric to use.. When I received a bundle of these funky fabrics from Prestigious Textiles I knew they would be perfect for this makeover!!
The sewing box had a retro feel and I knew the fabrics would work great on this project.
The bundle was full of groovy patterns and bright colours – match made in haven for this sewing box.. The problem I had now was… which fabric to choose..
I went with the cube design that had lovely teal and tangerine cubes.
I wanted the inside to be a little different to used this gorgeous fabric from the Cube collection in tangerine.
I removed the old fabric and re-upholstered the sewing box. I used a combination of staples, hot glue gun and no more nails to finish the outside of the box. The inside was a little bit more challenging and I used some mod podge to cover the panels, the side panels were then attached using upholstery pins..
I did a little frugal trick on the pins. I always like to save a little money here and there and don’t want to spend extra unless I really have to.. I needed some white upholstery pins but when I went to the DIY store they were twice as expensive as the plain ones, so I decided to spray paint the upholstery pins I already had at home using white spray paint! RESULT! It worked and saved me a bit of money too!
The sewing box had lovely wooden legs but they were a drab orangey brown colour which I wasn’t a big fan of, so I sanded it all off and varnished the legs using wood stain.
LOVE how fun it turned out!! Thank you very much Prestigious Textiles for sending me this lovely bundle of fabrics!
What a gorgeous upcycle! The fabric you are using is perfect for this little sewing box, it looks so cool with the angle of the legs. … it even looks like a stool. We are hosting a link party and would love it if you would join us over at Sweet Inspiration.
