Giving and Old Chest of Drawers a New Lease of Life

When we decided on updating our bedroom, I didn’t quite expect to go all out for it and change pretty much everything.. We have been in our house for almost two years and had neglected our bedroom, the place that should be our haven! One thing lead to another and we are now completely transforming the room from neglected  space to glamorous bedroom we deserve.

I may have champagne taste, but unfortunately prosecco budget.. So, as always most of the things will be made or transformed by me..  We had this chest of drawers which was left in the house by the old house owners.  It is a sturdy piece and I used it for nearly two years. I really didn’t want to throw it out, so decided to slightly update it!

The varnish has turned a little orange and the drawers were falling apart.  After fixing the drawers and glueing them together I sanded the chest of drawers.  I realised it wasn’t solid wood but had a nice wooden veneer, so I didn’t go too mad with the sander!

I used some wood stain I had left (in walnut) and rubbed several coats until I was happy with the colour.. As long as the orange varnish was gone, I was happy.  I decided to add a little extra and painted the edges using Farrow & Ball eggshell paint in Hague Blue. I am planning on using the same colour on the wardrobe that is being built! The colour is so gorgeous and I thought worked so well with the wood stain!

Sometimes to update an old piece of furniture you can simply restore it to its former glory and add a subtle modern twist. What do you think?

Full makeover will hopefully follow soon, there are still quite a few things I need to finish on doing, so wish me luck!
