Visiting London and Attending Mad About the House Book Launch

We are finally home after a few days away, when we went to London last week! If you follow my blog and Instagram stories you probably already know I had the opportunity to attend Amara Home Refresh Event (more about it on a separate post) and also the book launch of Kate’s amazing new book called Mad About the House! As we were in London, we took this opportunity to explore London for a bit too!

We took the morning flight from the Isle of Man on Wednesday and after a brief train journey arrived at our destination.  We stayed central, in a hotel near King’s Cross Station as it was convenient for the book launch and the Amara event the following day.  I won’t name the hotel as probably the only best thing about it was the location! I must say we were on a budget and as we went exploring most of the day, we didn’t really spend much time in the room anyway..

As we arrived in King’s Cross station we found the “Platform 9 3/4”. There was a massive queue of people getting their photos taken, but at  £9.50 per photo we decided to skip that one..

The shop was pretty cool to walk around, so if you are a Harry Potter fan then this is definitely worth visiting..

Once we dropped our bags off at the hotel, we headed to St. Paul’s Cathedral.  I am normally quite anxious about crowds and travelling on tube, but once we got to the grips with the underground, we were fine!

Just a few stops later we arrived and it was stunning!! The weather was glorious too so we walked around the area for a while.

After a quick ride on the tube, we arrived on Oxford Street and walked around the shops. I didn’t want to spend too long in the shops as we were getting tired by this stage, so ended up heading back to the hotel and getting ready for the evening.

The book launch was held at the Anthropologie on Regent Street! It was lovely listening to Kate and the way she spoke about the book.

As I was sipping on the bubbly I could not help but relate to most of her stories.. If you have read her book and Pinterest section does not relate to you something is not quite right! Ha ha

After a brief chat with Kate, a photo opportunity and signing of my book, Shaun and I headed back to the hotel to catch some zzz.  I had a busy morning ahead at the Amara Home Refresh event…

  1. Oooh I didn’t know Kate had written a book – but makes sense..she’s practically a god in the interiors world! Looks like a memorable day out for you – maybe one day you’ll be writing your own book!

  2. £9.50 for a photo? They should have gone for 9 pounds and 3/4 :))) madness!
Really like reading posts that explore cities, as they can help you pick things you never see yourself (and as such learn new things and visit places yourself!).
How are you finding Kate’s new book?

  3. Oh, it sounds like you had a great time. I don’t go to London as often as I would like but I really like exploring the city when I do get there from time to time. Our hotel last year was a crapy one too but like you we were out for most of the time so it didn’t really matter

  4. Sounds like you had a great day in London! What you have to pay to take a picture in front of the 9 3/4? Didn’t know, I always see a big queue there, would have skipped it too. I’m sure it was lovely to hear Kate Watson-Smyth talk about her book and getting it signed.
