How we chose the kitchen cabinet hardware

Disclaimer: AD, I have received the items free of charge and this post is made in collaboration with Frelan Hardware, however, all views, experiences and ideas are 100% my own and are not influenced in any way.

Frelan Hardware is a family run business manufacturing high-quality beautiful architectural hardware. They offer a wide range of beautiful hardware so I was spoilt for choice when it came to picking my favourite. I have been a fan of Frelan Hardware for a very long time and we have worked together on a previous project in our old house. Do you remember these custom built wardrobes and the gorgeous handles we used?

As you know we have been planning our dream kitchen for a very long time and it is nearly time to add the finishing touches and finally enjoy the fruits of our labour. I thought about every detail when I was designing this kitchen and if you follow me for a while, you will know that one of the things on my wish list was brass handles.

Brass was always going to be the finish I was going for but Frelan Hardware has various different finishes including Dark Bronze, Matt Black, Antique Brass, Polished Nickel, Satin Brass, and Satin Nickel.

I was playing around with different sizes and types of hardware and in the end decided to go with handles rather than knobs. Mainly, because I thought handles were going to be more practical than small knobs. We also have an integrated fridge, freezer, pantry units and large drawers and I thought that larger handles would look amazing combined with the same handle in a smaller size.

After some careful consideration, I narrowed it down to these three beauties from their Hoxton range:- Sturt, Wenlock and Taplow. They are all classic, beautiful and will be pretty timeless.

To make the cabinets look more luxurious I decided to add the backplate in the same satin brass finish. Frelan Hardware has two types to choose from – Rushton and Fanshaw.

In the end I picked the Wenlock handle with Fanshaw backplate. I was a so excited when the handles arrived, as they are absolutely gorgeous. The handles are quite heavy as they are solid brass and such high quality.

I spent last Sunday fitting these handles and all I can say they are looking pretty amazing. The hardware is definitely making the kitchen look more high end! Stay tuned for the kitchen reveal featuring these beauties.

Quick tips on what you should take into account when picking the kitchen hardware:

  • choose the right material
  • consider the finish
  • consider what is more important – comfort, functionality or aesthetics
  • decide between handles or knobs, or mix and match
  • make sure you have the right measurements
  • pick the correct size
  • fitting – DIY or get a professional – you know what I will choose!
