It is JUNE!!! Well, by the time I finish and submit my post probably end of June, but it is still June nonetheless. This month’s Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest theme is “Coastal Inspirations” and it is sponsored by the amazing Saltwash™ . Hosting this month’s challenge are Carrie of Thirty Eighth Street and Colleen of 58 Water Street.
Saltwash™ is a Real Sea Salt additive for your paint which helps you create that beautiful and unique weather worn look in just a few simple steps. I was sooooooo excited to hear about this month’s sponsor as I have been admiring the product over social media for ages!! Have you seen the amazing effect you can achieve with it???
I also absolutely LOVE the theme of this month’s contest “Coastal Inspiration”, as I get inspired by the sea, the views and the beach every single day! I am lucky enough to live on the beautiful Isle of Man and call it my home.
I received the Saltwash™ in post and squealed with excitement when I opened the box. This was something new to me, something I have never tried, so of course I was super excited!
I decided to use a little side table and a chair to create a matching set. In all the excitement I forgot to take a picture of the chair!!! argh.. Here is the before picture of the table at least.
I followed the instructions and mixed some chalk paint with the Saltwash™ until I had a thick consistency. This was going to be my base colour (Mother Duck).
I put the paint on the surface ( I am using the technical term from the Saltwash™ website) – using “glob” like technique. This was quite hard as I normally paint very neatly to avoid any brush strokes. Well, NOT in this case! “Glob away” and don’t worry about imperfections as that’s exactly what you want to have the best effect.
Once the surface has dried a little, go over with the brush to lightly smooth out the layer and let it dry.
Then I put on the top coat – I chose to use my home made white chalk paint for this and let it dry.
NOW came the fun part.. SAND SAND SAND ( I am not usually THAT keen on sanding but in this case I couldn’t wait to get started!)! This is when you see the actual results and my oh my it is gorgeous. The texture, the detail and authenticity! I then drybrushed with some darker blue for some accents.
To finish off I waxed over to bring out the depth of the colours. I absolutely LOVE the effect and definitely will be using it again and again! It really does give you an authentic, time worn look. I kind of feel I want to Saltwash™ everything all of a sudden..(hint hint – the blue vase/bottle).
What do you think of my Coastal Inspiration?
